FANCOM® Pig Cough Monitor
Sound Analysis for Automatic Health Monitoring
- Detect respiratory disease early
- Reduce the use of antibiotics
The FANCOM® Pig Cough Monitor (PCM) continuously monitors the occurrence of coughing in a room of finishers by automated analysis of sounds recorded in the pig barn. With this innovation, a continuous observation of the respiratory health status of pigs becomes possible, diseases can be detected earlier and the use of antibiotics can be reduced.
Sound Analysis
The system consists of a control with analyzing software and two microphones installed at several locations to record sound. This sound is filtered to separate general pig sounds from coughing. This information is presented on graphs or bar charts to the end-user and alarms are triggered when the number of pig coughs is too high.
Early Warning
With this continuous and automatic observation, respiratory disease can be detected in an early stage and the use of antibiotics can be reduced. A reduction in the use of antibiotics is healthier for both pigs and humans. Healthy animals perform better, leading to more consistent growth, faster weight gain, improved feed conversion and greater profit.
Welfare Monitor
The sound analysis biometrics system uses new sensor technology such as cameras and microphones to measure animal care and health in an objective way. Information from these measurements combined with the data from the ventilation and feed controllers generates an objective assessment of the actual well being of the pigs by means of an automatic welfare monitor.
Management Tool for Veterinarians
Apart from the financial benefit to farmers provided by early disease detection, the Fancom system also gives veterinarians the ability to meet the challenge of continuously providing more detailed information about current health threats. Not only can they consult in a quick and economic way, they can also compare the results of different farms equipped with this Fancom system and manage the threat of a wider spread infection within their region.
On-Farm Solution
Two versions of the PCM are available. The on-farm solution presents the PCM data in the Fancom F-Central FarmManager™ software and allows integration with the other process information on the farm.
Cloud Solution
The cloud solution comes with a subscription with an annual license fee payable for the use of the software. The PCM data is available from a cloud server. The cloud solution offers additional analysis and early warning tools to help you to get a more complete picture of the health status of your animals.
